WELCOME TO JET SET WILLY!
Willy must collect all items from the mansion before Maria will allow him to bed!
You have two options - 8 lives (Normal mode) like the original, or UNLIMITED lives (Endurance Mode). In Endurance Mode, each death costs you 2 minutes.
If you are having trouble loading the game, please see the Frequently Asked Questions. If you need help completing some of the rooms, please see the bottom of the page for guidance!
For more information than you wanted to know about this version, and a detailed commentary, see the bottom of the page.
Think it can't be completed? THINK AGAIN. Click here for darnkitty.com's official (tool-assisted) walkthrough.

I've just realised that you can jump a gap of 2×4 Air-cells without having to stand at the very edge of the cell from which you jump – one step back from the edge will do. It makes "Priests' Hole" and "Under the Drive" considerably easier than I thought they were!
On the other hand, it would ruin any occurrences of the following design-pattern, where, in Spectrum MM/JSW, you can stand one step back from the right edge of the bottom-left cell to jump right onto the bottom-right cell:
.....--
.......
-.....-
Key:
. Air
- Water
Also, I found an infinite-death scenario by jumping left off the ramp in "First Landing" so as to land inside the Swiss Army knife in "Top Landing". |

Wow - this is great news. A couple of times on "The Bridge", which is basically a "running" jump under pressure, I've launched and thought "I jumped too early, I'm dead", but I've landed safely and dismissed it as paranoia. Now it all makes sense.
I've never noticed this on, say, "Priests' Hole" or "The Kitchen", because the jumps are not under pressure so I go as far possible to the end of the platform, intentionally do a vertical jump and keep holding the jump key then, whilst in the air, begin holding the direction key. This eliminates the possibility of accidentally tapping the direction key fractionally before the jump key and stepping off the platform to death.
Good work Andrew. |

Andrew - thanks for pointing out a bug in the game. I will certainly attempt to remove the bug. However I have deleted the post in which you reported it - just to keep specifics of a bug out of the main game page. |

Dear Matt, this game was my favourite when I was 11...now I'm 35,and I was very happy when I found this site on internet.I haven't managed to collect all 104 items, but I think I will soon.
Flako,Vegas and the rest of ''champs'',thank you for helping me find all the secret rooms-I read all your posts, the rest was easy.

Hi all - I just found this site a few days ago and finally have completed (at least the original 83 items) Jet-Set Willy. Well, on endurance mode at least - I probably died about 50 times but I eventually overcame every challenge!
And yes I too am in early 30's and played this game as a child on ZX Spectrum (never finished cos of the bugs etc) and Amstrad (no bugs but never finished - think this was a bigger version as it had more rooms and 'the trip switch' !
Well done, this seems almost identical to the original ZX Spectrum version - without the bugs and the endurance option for infinite lives!

MORE DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THIS VERSION OF JET SET WILLY
It was Flash Jet Set Willy originally... but now I present: Java Jet Set Willy!
- There are no jump sounds, because I haven't managed to get them to sound good yet.
- The music doesn't loop seamlessly. Java support for sounds is very limited, so I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to do about it.
- I've tried to eliminate all "infinite death" loops; Endurance Mode would not really have been possible without this. If you encounter an infinite loop, please post in the forum, describing the exact place you are standing/dying when the infinite loop happens and I'll do my best to remove it somehow.
Note: To complete the endurance mode, you need to get all the items from the ORIGINAL game. You don't have to collect items from the extra rooms that I've added. What? I added some rooms? Well yes, I couldn't resist. One such room you can find down the toilet - I've taken it (along with the spelling mistake) direct from the Commodore 64 version of Jet Set Willy 2. The location of the others is left to the reader as an exercise!
The aim of Normal Mode is to get the most items before dying. The aim of Endurance Mode is to get the best time. These are the criteria for the high score boards.
So exactly which are the original rooms? They are all the ones on this page.
Need some help? One place to start is darnkitty.com's official youtube channel. Or, post in the jet set willy forum!
The old Jet Set Willy forum can be found here.
If you want the game to remember your music choice, then you should create an account, and you should find that your music choice is saved.
THANKS GO TO:
- Andrew Broad, whose wonderful Spectrum pages were a godsend.
- Carl Woffenden, for his rope code which really helped when building the ropes in this version.
- Arsen Torbarina, for creating the The JSW Tech Page. Without it, this version would not be possible.
