Can anyone advise how to get past cavern 18? It is causing a problem for me and cannot seem to work out how to get past it, except without loads of luck, which i dont want to rely on.

Well you could download on of the many emulators around, and have a bit of a practice on that level without having to go through 1-17 first. The level passwords can't be that hard to find. |

In The Warehouse is it compulsory to be able to jump and land between the two bushes at the very start - I've watched a youtube clip of it being done and that's how the guy did it. I die EVERY time |

I always start The Warehouse by walking right, stopping short of the first yellow bush, and dropping down. Then, after collecting the leftmost item, I jump to land between the two bushes.
The Warehouse is a tough room for beginners, but practice makes perfect!

In this version of Manic Miner, collision-detection for guardians is not what what it might be.
I think the vertical guardians in The Warehouse are supposed to be threshers. In the Software Projects edition, they are impossible triangles. I'm not sure what name to give the horizontal guardians...

This is my first post, as I've just found this site, and am already addicted to Manic Miner (the wife is not happy). This was the first game I ever owned on my ZX Spectrum, and it brings back fond memories, especially the fax noise it used to make on loading. I'm onto level 11 and am beginning to remember how frustrating it can be. I've no idea about any hidden items, or any way to get extra lives, so a bit of help would be appreciated. |

Pretty certain there aren't any, to be honest. Keep going though - it gets easier. I'd say the first real tough level is Skylab (14?) although i do still lose lives far too often right at the end of the Vat. Damn yellow kangaroo! |

Jongtfc. You are right about that kangaroo! I also lose silly lives by trying to complete the earlier caverns too quickly.....must learn to take my time and save lives for the later stages. |

There are no hidden items, and - unlike the Spectrum original - no extra lives.
The last time I played, my browser was jerky, causing me to lose a life by jumping too early in Cavern 10 (The Endorian Forest); I reacted by losing my second life in that cavern with careless timing.
I then staggered all the way to Cavern 24 (Decaying Uranium Workings) on my last life before walking too close behind the green sealion, misjudging its right boundary and jumping too early.
I'll have to remember to close all other tabs in my browser if I'm going to try to regain the Gold Medal before March!

How come there is no sound with Manic Miner game. I play this game on Negative World and there is sound. I would play the game more often on this site, but without the sound, it SUCKS!! I searched the page fromtop to bottom, but I can find no info on how to turn on the sound.
If there is no sound, then this is a pretty lame site. Who the heck wants to play a game without sound? Im sure the hearing impaired don't mind. Come on, whats the story? Is this site lame, or am I overlooking something? |

This version of Manic Miner is based in part on Carl Woffenden's JavaScript version, which has no sound.
For me, the magic of Manic Miner is in the exquisite game-mechanics, and I'm so familiar with the game that my brain fills in the missing sound anyway.
What I miss more than the sound is the pixel-perfect guardian collision-detection of the original Spectrum-version. The version of Jet Set Willy on this site is closer to the mark in terms of being faithful to the original MM/JSW game-mechanics.

I can appreciate your feelings towards the silence. Its was only a few months ago I was introduced to the game. And the sound seemed to fit very naturally, so I would have never figured that the original had no sound. Actually, I thought the game was made by one of the people that created the site I first played the game on. I never heard of it before.
So, since it first had sound for me, I want sound nag-nab-it!! Sersiouly though, I will play the game on this site cause I like that the site keeps high scores plus since you informed me that the game originally had no sound, then I will take back anything I said badly against darnkitty.
See...another situation where I opened my mouth too soon, w/out knowing all the facts. |
