Darnkitty Flash Cards (Mobile version)
Free JAVA flashcards software for your mobile phone
 Introduction
If you're learning a new language, why not spend your lunch break or your
daily train ride brushing up on your vocabulary? If you have a JAVA enabled cellphone, this application will allow you to do exactly that!
You can create lists of words yourself, or download lists of words from this site. For a more
detailed list of features, visit the information page.
First, the disclaimer!
I created this flash cards application for my Nokia N95 one day
to help me learn a new language, and I've decided to make it available for all to use. However,
I can't (and don't) guarantee it will work on your particular phone / blackberry / modded PSP / gran's rotary phone.
I hope that it will run on any device that meets the requirements listed below, but since my Nokia N95
is the only JAVA mobile device I have access to, I can't test it on any other devices. I cannot be held
responsible for any damage caused to your device - although this is highly unlikely to happen... it's such
a simple application!
Device Requirements
This mobile version of will only run on handheld devices which
support JAVA Mobile Edition and the FileConnection API (JSR 75). Most newer phones will have this functionality.
Installation
Installing the portable version of is slightly
more complicated than installing the Windows version. First, check your mobile phone meets
the requirements above. Trying to run the application on an unsupported phone will raise an error (but won't hurt anything!).
There are two ways to install the application on your phone - you can either
use your phone's web browser and download the file directly (your network provider may or may not charge for
this service), or you can download the application here and transfer it to your phone via infra-red,
bluetooth, or USB cable.
Downloading directly onto your phone using WAP:
This is the simpler way - however your mobile provider may charge for this service. Point your phone's web browser at: http://wap.darnkitty.com/dkfc.jar,
and then follow the instructions on the phone. For your information, the file size is a mere 17,388 bytes.
Downloading here and then transferring to your phone via infra-red, cable, or bluetooth:
This way is guaranteed not to incur any mobile data charges, but is slightly more complicated.
Step 1 - Download the ZIP file by clicking the link below. Unzip these files to any location on your computer.
Step 2 - Install the application (the JAR and JAD files you just extracted) on your phone using the software that
came with your phone. The procedure to do this will depend on the type of device you have.
